Ingredients for Vegan Bechamel Sauce:
- 50 grams of extra virgin olive oil or 60 grams of vegetable margarine.
- 50 grams of wheat flour (it can be whole grain although it will give the sauce a different color)
- 600 milliliters of plant milk (any milk works, I recommend soy milk since it does not taste as sweet as the others).
- Salt, black pepper and nutmeg to taste.
Preparation of the vegan Bechamel Sauce"
- In a non-stick frying pan, melt the vegetable margarine at medium-low temperature (if you have used extra virgin olive oil, heat it in the frying pan before it smokes).
- Add the wheat flour, stirring very well so that it integrates until lightly browned.
- Pour in the non-dairy milk slowly without stopping to beat to avoid lumps.
- Cook over low heat for at least 30 minutes while still pouring in the milk and beating until it takes the thickness of your preference.
- If lumps have formed, you can blend the sauce.
- And ready! An exquisite bechamel sauce that we can combine with a huge amount of food such as pasta, croquettes and even with this sauce we can gratin pastichos, cannelloni and vegetables.
